One thing our children wanted to do in Atlanta was go to the Coca-Cola Museum. We did not go because it was rather costly. The kids had been once before a couple years ago, and the older ones remembered the soda fountain at the end where you get to drink as much soda as is humanly possible. It turns out that's the part they were missing. We never buy soda at the grocery store, so it is a real treat to them to get some. I decided to give them their own soda fountain night.
First we picked out some different sodas to try.
Then the tasting began...
Which quickly turned into mixing very strange drinks.
All had fun mixing and giggling.
This is what we were left with at the end.
Awww! Such sticky fun! Why did I bathe them first?!?!
Well, the fun is over. Tomorrow morning we start a gluten-free, egg-free, corn-free, dairy-free diet. We are hoping to track down what is causing some of the children to have large grey circles under their eyes, splotches of red appearing on their faces or shocking red ears after eating. Hopefully, we will also discover the solution to Tom Sawyers' bed wetting. We know that Tom Sawyers' and Goldilocks' birth father is very allergic to dairy. Perhaps that is some of our problem around here. It would not hurt if we could clean up some not so fun behavior issues, as well. However, I am not holding my breath on that one! Keep us in your thoughts, please.
Blessings, Dawn
What a great idea. I also like the whole using of paper cups--I should have thought of that for our hot chocolate tasting!
ReplyDeleteYou are the best mom! What fun!!
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you need any help (or encouragement) with the diet. I don't know if you've seen this on my blog, but here are some recipes from my favorite cookbook:

(If you're ever looking for something decadent, the chocolate cake and chocolate chip muffins are both really delicious.)
We've seen some behavior changes with the diet. I'll pray that you experience the same.

That looks like fun. I know my kids would have thoroughly enjoyed a pop tasting such as that!

Isn't it amazing that no matter what cool flavors the soda companies create the kids always mix them! Looks like everyone had their fill, though, and for a lot less than that museum.

Smart mom. I love how you got right down to the root. It wasn't the museum as much as the DRINKS! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! Wow!
ReplyDeleteWe discovered that the red patches on my dd face and arms were from the vanillia bean in a specific type of ice cream. The break out was instant and kinda scarey. She also has breakouts on other stuff but that was the main one.
My oldest ds goes pale and itchy with MSG. Its in so many things.
Wishing you the best as you set out to discover what is not mixing well with each of your dear children. It takes time. Reading the fine print on lables, looking stuff up and really just getting back to the basics.
I forgot to share.. a bit personal...my leaky bladder which I have had for years completly stopped when I cut sugar, bread products, pasta, and dairy out of my diet. My doctors always said it was the Ceberal Palsy and then of course having 4 children and then being overweight. I was at the point I hated to leave home. I was wearing depends pads. I still use honey as it is good for my asthma and makes my herb and spice coffee in the morning go down easier.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun thing to to ! I might have to do something like that one time. I remember as a kid when we when to the roller rink kids would order the graveyard soda which was 3 or more pops mixed. I guess things don't change much. [0;
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this. This was such a fun S&T.

That museum is indeed fun, and I bet you had some live wires after those soda mixes! I am a Georgia native with three sisters who live in the Atlanta area, so we get back about once/year. On our last trip, we saw the Aquarium--what an awesome experience. It's great that you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun thing to do! Best wishes on the diet changes...I know how challenging those can be to implement.
