We are busy starting our study of Ancient Greece with Story of the World (SOTW). I think we will be studying Ancient Greece for about 5 weeks, maybe less. However, this month is really busy with appointments so it will probably be more like 5 weeks. Thanks to the great activity book that goes with SOTW, I have some fantastic ideas planned to make this time extra fun. We will make a labyrinth out of blocks, write our names in Greek, make an Olympic Wreath, write on an Athenian Wax tablet, make No-Sew Greek Clothes and paper dolls, draw a home for the Greek Gods, build the Parthenon, make Athenian Coins, and learn to tie a Gordian Knot.
I made a learning corner with books, Greek figurines (I found at Target on clearance last year) and a cool puzzle book that has stories from Greek Mythology with corresponding puzzles. The kids are already having fun with them.
We will keep you posted on our fun and learning.
Blessings, Dawn
That certainly looks like lots of fun and very educational too! You have great pictures as well, thanks for sharing, it is very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI've chosen you for a Kreativ Blogger award here --http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Jimmie/65386. If you don't do these types of things or are too busy, just be flattered and feel no pressure to participate. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a lot of fun. I can't wait to hear how it goes.
ReplyDeleteI love your display! We loved studying Ancient Greece. Okay, okay - we've loved studying EVERY era of history!
ReplyDeleteStory of the World is a wonderful resource, isn't it??
Looking forward to spring around here!

Looks like you have a lot of FUN planned. We kept learning about Ancient times and the bible for a looooooooooooong time. This year we changed to something totally different. Canadian History and then next we will go back to the middle ages.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet words.
Blessings in Him<><

Say, that is really a cool idea (setting up a learning center). I did a unit study on Rome once, and it was a lot of fun, too. We made books of clay, like what they wrote in, with wooden frames and everything. Oh, these are the fun years! Enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteI love hands on learning. This is a great period of history to "play"!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun! We use SOTW too, but we're in the Middle Ages.
ReplyDeleteI bet you guys will really enjoy the unit. I had a bit of time finding some of the suggested reading books, but SC has a great inter-library system so we were able to get our hands on some of the older books.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are going to have a wonderful time exploring the Greeks.
Wonderful!! How fun!! I've decided to revisit Egypt to really get a feel of it for the kids. Hopefully, we'll have more fun with the lapbooks and doing some reading and activities. Then off to Greece and Rome. I look forward to a more interesting and fun second half of the year, even if we're living outta suitcases!! Thanks for always taking time to post a message.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love your art lessons. We've fallen behind on ours and I need to pick that back up this week. I'm feeling a little more energetic today. Hopefully, this week will go better. I think all the laying around the last two days watching Little House on the Prairie have helped-Hallie hasn't felt well.
Have a wonderful week!
Michelle
I plan to use "The Story of the World" series with my daughter in the fall. I've heard it's a great series! I am ordering the activity book with it as well.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend!

You could spend months on Greece. Hold your own Olympics with SI activities, make baklava, oh no, you've got me started now! LOL

I wish SOTW had been around when my children were younger! I especially love the companion book with all of the projects. We're studying Greece, too, but it's all about the literature now!
ReplyDeleteHi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteHow old is Tom Sawyer and what changes in diet? Jordan, age 7 is still an everynight bed wetter. He is lactose intolerant and also very hyper. I am thinking he may have some food stuff going on, message me if you have the time! I need any help I can get. Ryan is on day two, and I can already tell he is not ready, It is too much tantruming, and I don't want a negative experience. When my other kids were ready I had no real struggle.
sigh,
