Biology and Dissecting a Frog

If dissecting is gross to you, just skip this entry.  We finally got around to dissecting the frog.  The little ones wanted in on the big teen project, so we made it a family event.   Everyone, even Grandma, got in on the act.  Well everyone except Dad and Goldilocks.  They have no interest in such things.  We ended up with a boy frog.  I was amazed how much Tom Sawyer and Little Red Ridinghood were interested, and they even dissected the muscles in the legs.  The big teen did most of the cutting and he managed to find most of the organs.  Photos are shown of the dissecting crew.

The line of the day ~ You know you are homeschooling when you come back into the room and everyone is under the table looking for the missing frog eyeball.  LOL

    We'll be doing these next year. I have already asked my SIL, who is a veternarian, if she would come and do these with the dc. She gleefully said yes! Hmmm, now that I think about it, she is having another baby and they usually aren't available. Hmmmmm, I may be stuck doing this! It will be for 15yod who feels like me. 12yos can't wait!

    By the way, I'm mailing your package tomorrow. I wasn't thinking about the fact that the kids didn't have TKD this week, so we've been home a lot more than usual. Sorry for the delay....

    How I am not looking forward to that. I can't even bait my own hook, never mind doing a disection. In HS I had my lab mate do all the cutting. I am so squeamish about the cutting part, not the guts and other icky stuff. I have bookmarked a site that you can do it virtually, so maybe I'll wimp out and go that route, but I know I'll probably have to give in. After all my son wants to be a marine biologist engineer and he will probably have to have some experience with this. Oh, the joys of homeschooling. LOL

    I remember doing the frog thing in jr. high and I just hated the smell more than anything. I'm still cringing from the photos you posted! LOL We dissected a cows eyeball last year and that was pretty interesting and nice because we didn't have that smell to go with it.

    I have been looking at Winter Promise too, but I'm not so sure it is what we need. Yes, expensive. I like the notebooking and that it has that scheduled...I already have the Time Traveler CDs for probably half of what they use, so that would be a big expense... I'm still thinking. I always jump the gun early and then don't follow through with what I said at first!

    OH how way cool is this! When my children wake up in the morning I will bring them back here to see the frog parts. We live vicariously through blog entries such as yours :D

    We are not a squeamish bunch around here....
